Commercial doors versus residential doors. What’s the difference? Read on to find out.
On average, how many doors do you think you open daily? 5, 10, 20, or maybe even more? While it is not something we give much thought to, doors are essential to every building we enter. From our homes and workplaces to the restaurants we visit and stores where we shop, there is quite a variety of doors we open and close every day. Even though there are dozens of types of doors, when it comes down to it, all doors can be divided into two main categories, commercial and residential. So what is the difference between the two? Here is what you need to know about these differences.
What is a Commercial Door?
Commercial doors are used on the interior and exterior of any commercial building, including (but not limited to) schools, offices, restaurants, stores, sports complexes, banks, etc. These doors are studier than residential doors, so they are often made from thick metal but can also be made from other materials, including glass and wood. These doors can be customized to fit your business’s unique needs and style.
What is a Residential Door?
Residential doors are used within your home. Like commercial doors, residential doors come in many varieties to suit personal preferences. From simple to ornate, residential doors often reflect the homeowner’s style. Because of their functions, residential doors are less expensive than commercial doors.
What is the Difference?
Overall, the two types of doors differ in their usage and, therefore, their design. Commercial doors need to be able to withstand heavier use than residential doors. While a residential door is opened only a few times a day, commercial doors are opened a few hundred (or more) times. This high public usage requires them to be more durable (including weather- and damage-resistant) and more secure than residential doors; therefore, they are often thicker, more insulated, and have more security features.
